Growing up with cerebral palsy brought its own unique challenges and experiences. From the age of 10 to 15, school was a blend of support and subtle isolation. I had special accommodations like a tailored chair and table, and I relied on a computer instead of traditional pen and paper. While these accommodations were incredibly helpful, they sometimes made me feel like an outsider, missing out on the simplicity of sharing the same tools with friends.
During that time, I was fortunate to have a wonderful group of friends who supported me through the ups and downs. However, there were also peers who didn’t fully understand my experiences, which brought its own set of challenges. Balancing these differences and navigating those social dynamics was often difficult.
On top of that, my emotions during these years felt like a roller coaster. There were moments of joy and connection, but also times of frustration and loneliness. These emotional ups and downs were a significant part of my journey, shaping who I am today.
