Living with cerebral palsy, my daily life is filled with unique challenges—though I like to think of them as quirks that make my normal, well, my normal. For instance, while some people can juggle a cup of coffee and a phone call, I’m just trying to keep the coffee in the cup! My right hand sometimes has a mind of its own, which means that peeling potatoes can turn into a comedy show. Thankfully, my mom or a trusty kitchen gadget is always there to lend a hand.
At school, writing was another adventure. While others could dash off essays, I found myself taking the scenic route on a keyboard, typing at a leisurely pace. And when it comes to speaking, I sometimes need a moment to find the right words, which can be a bit of a puzzle for those listening. But hey, it just means we get to enjoy the journey a little longer!
Through it all, I’ve learned that my normal is pretty awesome. It’s all about adapting, finding humor in the little things, and embracing the unique pace of life. And honestly, it’s these challenges that make my journey all the more special.
