As Christmas Eve rolls around, our home transforms into a cozy holiday haven. While my mom busily prepares the food—stuffing the turkey with her delicious, organic blend of sausage, herbs, and nuts—my dad is in charge of the “stuffing” in a different way, occasionally getting a bit overzealous and causing some laughter along the way.
In Portugal, we often celebrate on the 24th with preparations, but the main festivities and present-opening happen on the morning of the 25th. My dad lights the fire, my mom whips up a hearty breakfast, and then we gather around the tree to unwrap our gifts, each present unwrapped with excitement and joy.
For me, this holiday season is extra special as I reflect on how my experiences with cerebral palsy shape our traditions. It’s a time of laughter, love, and a bit of holiday magic.
Wishing you all a wonderful Christmas filled with warmth and joy!
